August 2006
Meeting Gallery
August's meeting
was held at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.
HCCC Staff hosted a casual critique of member-turned items from the perspective
of what patrons of HCCC's retail store
might look for when considering works for purchase.
Demonstration
The meeting began
with a demonstration by Larra Zarra. Best known for large
turnings, Larry showed another side to his turning skills by displaying
a collection of miniatures and then showing club members how he
makes them, including his hand-made tools designed for tight places.
Casual Critique
Amanda Clifford, HCCC Exhibition Coordinator, and Wanda Williams, HCCC
Retail Coordinator (shown in the first photo, below), shared their
opinions on members' work from the perspective of NON-woodturning
experts. Their views more closely represent what the
public-at-large might think when viewing, and making buying decisions,
about woodturned items, and club members gained valuable insight about
what "works" and what "doesn't."
A good time was had by all . .
.
Members brought lots of items for critique. Here are pictures of
the tables and some of the items displayed.
