Demonstration: "Visualization"--Determining the
best way to extract the maximum from a log

Jim Keller discussed the many different ways how a log could yield
different shapes. |

Jim is one of GCWA's most experienced turners and he held
the attention and interest of those attending |

Jim used diagrams to help the audience
"visualize" the different shapes that were within a log. |

Asked to guess the number of "pieces" that could be obtained
from the crotch piece, the audience consistently guessed low.
Answer: A LOT! |
Faces In the Crowd and Other Pictures

George Kabacinski opened the December meeting,
which was held at the Bayland Community Center, with
announcements. |

The tool exchange always attracts a crowd. |

Unsung hero #1: Dave Barziza, who coordinates the
Show & Tell Award process including getting items ready to be
photographed. |

Unsung hero #2: Paul Millo, who
spends a great deal of each meeting photographing Show & Tell
items for the website and newsletter. |

Andy Chen and Bill Berry caught discussing
woodturning and the world economy. |

Doug Davis and Jon Gaynor caught discussing
woodturning AND the world economy. |

Jonathan Bartz and By Read ALSO caught discussing
woodturning and the world economy. |

Jerry Bennett and Jay Ebner did NOT discuss
either woodturning or the world economy. They discussed
their Christmas wish lists! |
