June 2016 Spring Retreat Number 19

2016 marked the 19th consecutive year that the Gulf Coast Woodturners Association has held a spring retreat, a huge undertaking which pays huge dividends to beginning turners and to seasoned turners, as well.  This year's retreat was chaired by Marty Kaminsky, who was aided by a small army of volunteers, without whose help the retreat could not have happened.

Thanks to all who volunteered and to those who participated.

This gallery consists of pictures taken at this year's retreat.  As always, click on the picture to see the full-sized image.  Thanks to Dale Barrack and Ric Taylor for providing the photography.  If you have additional high quality pictures from the retreat you'd like to share, please forward to our website volunteer at scott.haddix@gmail.com.

Andy brought the lathe that he's taken on many of his international trips, and had a much easier time finding volunteers to help put it together than to help power it!

Speculating the conversation went like this... "Jonathan, please sit down and peddle" , "Yeah, Andy, that's just not going to happen."

Award Presentation to a Special Member
Each year, the president of GCWA selects a special member who has "gone beyond and above" to help the club.  This year, residing president, Reggie Keith, selected Jonathan Bartz as the recipient of the LUNA FORD AWARD, an honor well deserved. Frankly, this retreat itself is a testament to the volunteer efforts that Jonathan has provided the club.

Information about the Luna Ford Award and list of prior recipients can be found here.
